Adopting a Policy

“Where do we start?” is the question most frequently asked by school and community leaders interested in adopting a 100% tobacco free school policy. In many cases, changing the policy is a multi-step process that involves a number of people including school administrators, community leaders, parents and youth advocates. The process can take several months – or even several years. Patience and thoughtful planning is required.

Case studies of NC’s 100% tobacco-free school districts have provided many “lessons learned”. Following are some tools and resources that will be helpful as you move through this process.
