In North Carolina, 111 out of 115 school districts have a 100% tobacco-free school policy in place. A 100% Tobacco-Free school has a policy that prohibits the use of tobacco products by anyone, including students, staff, and visitors, on school grounds or at school events at all times. This tobacco-free zone includes school premises, school vehicles, and school events, both indoors and outdoors, and both on and off school property. Today, there are more than half a million North Carolina youth with the benefits of a tobacco-free campus. All North Carolina school districts are encouraged to adopt this policy.

This site has been developed with the generous support of the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund (HWTF). The HWTF was created by the General Assembly as one of three entities to invest North Carolina's portion of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement The Trust Fund receives one fourth of the state's tobacco settlement funds These are invested in programs and partnerships to address access to health, disease prevention, education, and research that help all North Carolinians achieve better health.

The purpose of this site is to provide information, resources and assistance to school districts that are 100% tobacco-free or are considering adopting the policy, as well as to people in communities across North Carolina who want to advocate for a 100% tobacco-free policy in their local school district. Tackle Smoking Project finds strong support for TFS policies and fewer instances of smoking than at non-TFS schools
The UNC Tackle Smoking Project studied smoking behavior at North Carolina high school football games at schools with and without 100% Tobacco-Free School policies, and found that there were more instances of smoking at football games at non-TFS schools than schools with 100% Tobacco-Free policies Furthermore, there was strong support for 100% TFS policies among spectators at 100% tobacco-free schools.
